Weekend Preview And Fixtures
22nd January 2013 By Munster Rugby
Action in the League for the Senior clubs as there is plenty of Cup activity at Junior level
The Ulster Bank All Ireland League continues with a full series of games across all four Divisions.
The game of the day sees Garryowen and Lansdowne go head to head at Dooradoyle in their top of the table clash in Division 1A. The home side will be looking to make home advantage count in a bid to keep their title aspirations on track.
Cork Constitution travel to the Capital to take on St Mary’s College in the first of three games between these sides this season as they will also meet in the final of the Bateman Cup at the end of April.
Dolphin entertain third-placed Young Munster at Musgrave Park as bottom side Shannon who recorded their first win of the campaign against Limerick neighbours UL Bohemian last time out will be aiming to build on this result with a home win against Clontarf.
UL Bohemian take on Old Belvedere at Anglesea Road with both sides needing the points to avoid the drop.
Bruff travel to Dungannon in a basement clash in Division 1B with the points vital to both sides as they bid to avoid relegation.
In Division 2A leaders UCC face a tricky away tie against Cashel, but boosted by last week’s win over Old Wesley the students will fancy their chances of success.
Highfield and Old Crescent go head to head in a mid-table clash at Woodleigh Park. This is a repeat of their Munster Senior Cup opener which the Limerick side won 11-8 and the ‘Field will be looking to avenge this result.
Midleton boosted by their win over DLSP last week will have it all to do when they travel to Galwegians.
Clonakilty will have it all to do against Boyne in Drogheda as they look to continue their recent good run in Division 2B.
Third-placed Nenagh Ormond are away to City of Armagh, with the Premier County side looking to keep their promotion challenge on track.
Thomond entertain Ards in their basement clash and Sunday’s Well take on Navan at the Meath venue.
It is a busy weekend on the Junior Rugby front with Kanturk getting the show on the road on Saturday in what is the biggest day of their history as they take on holders Tullamore in the All Ireland Junior Cup semi final at the Duhallow venue and they will have it all to do to preserve their unbeaten home run going back to February 2008 when Ennis were the last side to beat them on their home patch.
The Munster Junior Cup continues with a full series of games in Round 4 on Sunday.
Holders Cork Constitution begin their defence of the trophy with an away tie against St Senan’s and last year’s finalists Skibbereen are away to Cobh Pirates.
There are three Cork derbies down for decision. Mid-Cork neighbours Ballincollig and Muskerry go head to head at Tanner Park, Kinsale are at home to Midleton and Old Christians take on Crosshaven at Rathcooney.
Garryowen and Shannon renew age-old rivalry at Dooradoyle, while Young Munster entertain Galbally at Clifford Park.
Two County Limerick sides have away ties as Newcastle West travel to Cork to play UCC and Bruff play Tralee.
Junior League Division 1 leaders Richmond have a home tie against Cashel and their near neighbours Presentation welcome Highfield to Rathuard.
Dolphin are away to Clanwilliam and Clonmel are at home to Ennis.
Mallow chasing promotion from Division 2 take on Waterpark at the North Cork venue.
The Junior Plate and Junior Bowl both get underway this weekend. Bandon begin their Junior Plate campaign with a home tie against Thomond and Nenagh Ormond entertain Castleisland.
Sunday’s Well face a tricky away tie against Junior League Division 3 leaders Killorglin, while Thurles entertain fellow Division 2 strugglers Dungarvan.
Fermoy begin their defence of the Junior Bowl with an away tie against North Cork neighbours Charleville and Dunmanway-Bantry Bay make the long trip to the Banner County to take on Scariff.
The only game in the Junior League sees Carrick-on-Suir taking on Killarney at the South Tipperary venue in Division 2 with both sides needing the points for different reasons. Carrick aiming to pull clear of relegation and Killarney to keep themselves in the promotion race.
Abbeyfeale and Waterford City go head to head in the Martin O’Sullivan Cup final at a venue yet to be confirmed.
