Weekend Preview And Fixtures

The season winds down with the concluding rounds and finals of Munster and local competitions down for decision this weekend.

On Saturday Shannon make the long trip to County Tyrone to take on Dungannon in an outstanding Ulster Bank League Division 1B tie with the result not going to have a bearing on anything as Dungannon are already relegated to Division 2A next season.

The Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Cup continues on Sunday as holders Kanturk continue their defence of the trophy against Clonmel at the South Tipperary venue.
The Duhallow side, who have recently gained senior status and have qualified to play in the AIL next season, ran out 34-15 winners when these sides met at the same venue in the League in November. The winners will be at away to Cobh Pirates in the semi finals.

Skibbereen entertain St Mary’s at the Carbery Showgrounds in the first semi final and Skibb’ will be looking to make the most of home advantage count in a bid to avenge last October’s 33-7 League defeat at Grove Island.

Bandon welcome Clanwilliam to Old Chapel in the second semi final of the Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Shield with the winners facing St Senan’s in the decider. Both of these sides missed out on promotion from Division 2 of the Junior League and Clan’ recorded a narrow 16-13 victory when these sides met in the League in Tipperary Town in November.
The West Cork side will be looking to add to the O’Neill Cup which was won against Kinsale on Easter Monday evening with a 31-8 victory, while Clan’ also have a home tie against Clonakilty in the Munster Junior Cup semi finals to look forward to.

The Martin O’Sullivan Cup semi finals are down for decision as Douglas entertain 2009 winners Carrick-on-Suir at Moneygourney. The South Cork side ran out 29-9 winners when these sides met on the opening day of the League campaign at the same venue.

Dungarvan, who missed out on promotion entertain Division 3 champions Ballincollig. The West Waterford side will be looking to make it two wins from two as they defeated ‘Collig 9-5 at the same in the League venue a month ago. Dungarvan seek to continue their quest to finish the season with silverware to compensate for missing out on promotion.

Highfield play Thomond in the Munster Seconds’ League quarter final at Woodleigh Park and the winners will meet Cork Constitution in the semi finals at Temple Hill.

The two Munster Junior 2 Cup semi finals are down for decision on Saturday as Bandon entertain Old Crescent at Old Chapel and Corca Dhuibhne travel to Limerick to take on Thomond at Liam Fitzgerald Park.

Cork Constitution take on Mallow in the Dennehy Cup final at Woodleigh Park and Highfield and Clonmel contest the South Munster Junior Two Cup decider at Musgrave Park. Both of these finals are on Sunday.
