Weekend Preview And Fixtures

The Munster Junior Cup takes center stage this weekend with twenty four games down for decision as well as some crucial league games.

There are three games featuring Munster teams in the Ulster Bank All Ireland League this Saturday.

In Division 1B Shannon travel to the Capital to take on Blackrock College after their match at Stradbrook a month ago was abandoned due to a serious injury. The Dublin side ran out 29-12 winners when these sides met on the opening day of the campaign at Coonagh in September.

Bruff bottom of Division 2A are at home to Banbridge and following their first win of the season last time out away to Naas in January, they will hope to collect the spoils.

In Division 2B Richmond and Tullamore go head to head in a mid-table clash at Richmond Park. These sides won their respective Provincial Junior Leagues last season and the Offaly side were victorious in last year’s Round-robin meeting which resulted in Richmond contesting the promotion-relegation play-off with Clonakilty.

Cork Constitution and first time finalists Cashel contest the Cork Charity Cup Final at Musgrave Park on Saturday.

There is one game down for decision in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League on Sunday where Muskerry travel to Rathcooney to take on Old Christians, with the Mid Cork side looking to claim valuable points in their bid to preserve their top flight status for another season.

The Munster Junior Cup gets underway on Sunday and holders Garryowen begin their defence of the trophy with an away tie against Bruff.

Last year’s finalists Cork Constitution are away to Cobh Pirates in a repeat of the 2006 decider where the East Cork side won the trophy for the first time in their history.

Carrigaline mark their debut in the completion with a home tie against Midleton. Crosshaven have a home tie against South Cork neighbours Kinsale and the home side face a tricky task as they were defeated 59-15 when these sides met in Division 2 of the Junior League at Kinsale in October.

Former AIL sides Waterpark and Clonakilty go head to head at The Vale and Clon’ will be looking to make it two wins out of two as they defeated ‘Park on a 28-19 scoreline in the League at Ballinakill just before Christmas.

Cashel entertain Charleville at the Spafield and Clonmel have a home tie against South Tipperary neighbours Carrick-on-Suir.

Munster Junior League leaders Kanturk welcome Highfield to the Duhallow venue.

Tralee make the long trip to the Showgrounds to take on Fermoy and Dungarvan are at home to Skibbereen.

The two Musgrave Park sides are away to Kerry opposition as Sunday’s Well take on Killarney and Dolphin lock horns with Killorglin.

Mallow, who are battling against relegation from the top flight are at home to Douglas in a Cork derby and UCC entertain Ballincollig at the Mardyke.

Castleisland make the long trip to East Cork to take on Youghal and the Kingdom side recorded a 37-10 home win when these sides met in Division 2 of the Munster Junior League in November.

UL Bohemian welcome Young Munster to Annacotty in a Limerick City derby and there is also a County Limerick derby tie down for decision as Galbally are at home to Abbeyfeale.

Clanwilliam are at home to Ennis and the Tipperary Town side recorded a 19-3 away win over the Clare side in Division 2 of the Junior League in October.

Thurles welcome Presentation to the Premier County and this is the second meeting of these sides in three weeks as the Tipperary side ran out 24-19 winners in Division 2 of the Junior League at Rathuard.

In other ties Kilfeacle are at home to Shannon, Newcastle West entertain Old Crescent and Richmond take on Nenagh Ormond at Richmond Park.

St Senan’s are at home to St Mary’s and Thomond welcome Newport to Liam Fitzgerald Park.
