Weekend Preview And Fixtures
15th April 2014 By Munster Rugby
It is the final series of games in Division 1A and 1B in the Ulster Bank League this weekend as well as Division 2 promotion-relegation play-offs.
Two sides with contrasting fortunes go head to head in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League as bottom side Garryowen, who are already relegated, entertain leaders Old Belvedere at Dooradoyle. The Dublin side will be aiming to collect maximum points and claim their second All Ireland League crown. Belvo ran out 15-5 winners when these sides met at Anglesea Road in early December.
Dolphin entertain former champions Lansdowne at Musgrave Park and the Leeside Club will be looking to make the most of home advantage count in their bid to avenge last December’s heavy defeat at the Aviva Stadium. Dolphin are just four points above Ballynahinch who occupy the relegation play off place at the moment so must get something from this encounter to be assured of avoiding a play off.
The two other Munster sides in this division are in action in mid-table encounters against Dublin opposition as Young Munster travel to the Capital to take on UCD at Belfield and Cork Constitution welcome St Mary’s College to Temple Hill.
The two Limerick sides in Division 1B complete their campaigns as Shannon are away to Dublin University and UL Bohemian take on Blackrock College who are battling relegation at Thomond Park.
Highfield and Thomond go head to head in the Division 2A promotion-relegation play-off at Woodleigh Park. Highfield will be looking to make the most of home advantage count in their bid to avoid the drop, while the Limerick side will be eager to win and clinch promotion having just missed out last week on automatic promotion by a points difference of two.
Kanturk make the long trip to Belfast to take on Instonians in the Division 2B playoff and this is a must-win game for the Duhallow side who find themselves one step away from senior status.
The Munster Junior Cup quarter finals are down for decision on Easter Sunday.
Holders Garryowen continue their defence of the trophy against UL Bohemian at Annacotty and the winners will have home advantage against 2012 finalists Skibbereen or Clonmel who go head to head at the Carbery Showgrounds.
Clanwilliam entertain Thomond in Tipperary Town, with the winners at home to Cashel or Clonakilty in the other semi final.
There are two Junior Plate quarter finals down for decision to determine which sides will join Tralee and Presentation in the semi finals.
Ennis will be looking to make the most of home advantage count as they continue their bid to finish a disappointing season with silverware as they take on St Mary’s at the Clare venue. The winners will have home advantage against Shannon or Cobh Pirates, who are due to meet at Coonagh.
Near neighbours Bandon and Kinsale contest the O’Neill Cup decider on Easter Monday evening with a venue to be confirmed. Kinsale were promoted from Division 2 in second place, behind St Senan’s and Bandon missed out on promotion as they finished third, but recorded a 6-3 home win over the South Cork side in the League in early November.
