Weekend Preview & Fixtures

It’s a crucial time of the season as the Leagues and Cups draw to a close.

The Ulster Bank All Ireland League continues this weekend with several relegation issues down for decision, as it the final series of games in Divisions 2A, 2B and the All Ireland Provincial League Championship.

In Division 1A, struggling Shannon will have a tricky task on their hands in their bid to avoid the drop as they take on Young Munster at Tom Clifford Park.

Fellow strugglers UL Bohemian will be looking to make the most of home advantage count as they entertain St Mary’s College at Annacotty.

There is nothing more than pride at stake as Cork Constitution travel to the Capital to take on second-placed Clontarf and Dolphin entrain Garryowen in a mid-table clash at Musgrave Park.

Bruff will have their work cut out as they take on third-placed Dublin University at College Park in their battle against relegation form Division 1B.

In Division 2 A UCC travel to take on leaders Terenure College at Lakelands Park and struggling Midleton will be looking to make the most of home advantage count as they welcome Old Wesley to East Cork in game they must win to avoid relegation.

Highfield entertain Galwegians at Woodleigh Park, Old Crescent host City of Derry and Cashel are away to Bective Rangers in mid-table encounters.

Nenagh Ormond must win their final game at home to NUIM Barnhall in a bid to secure a playoff place against the third last side in Division 2A. Barnhall must at least secure a point to guarantee them promotion.

Two Cork sides battling against the drop to Junior ranks from Division 2B are in action across the Border as Clonakilty are away to leaders Rainey Old Boys and defeat for the West Cork side will see them involved in a relegation play-off with the second-placed team from the Provincial League Championship, while a win for Clon’ will see them move another step closer to safety.

The West Cork side may also have to rely on a favour from fellow strugglers Sunday’s Well, who are away to Ards in a basement clash and a win for the ‘Well will put the County Down side in danger of contesting the relegation play-off.

A freak set of results could see Thomond in the relegation play off, so they will go all out to collect the points at home to Sligo.

In the Provincial League Championship two former AIL sides Richmond and Portadown go head to head at Chambers Park with the winners qualifying for the promotion/relegation play-off.

The fourth quarter final of the Munster Junior Cup is rescheduled for Sunday as last year’s finalists Skibbereen take on Highfield at Woodleigh Park with the winners away to holders Cork Constitution in the semi finals.

Mallow, who were promoted to Division 1 of the Junior League for the first time take on Youghal in the Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Shield decider in Fermoy on Saturday afternoon.

Waterford City, who were promoted to Division 2 are seeking their second piece of silverware as they look to add the Martin O’Sullivan Cup to the Junior Bowl title, which was won against Scariff recently, as they take on Abbeyfeale in Charleville. The West Limerick side who missed out on promotion recorded a narrow 13-12 away win over City in the League in February.

The finalists of the Gleeson League and South Munster Junior 2 League meet in the semi finals of the Munster Junior 2 Cup on Sunday. Richmond are at home to Cork Constitution and Carrigaline entertain Thomond in a repeat of last year’s tie which the Limerick side won 15-12.
