Weekend Preview | Highfield In AIL Action & Munster Junior League Title Decider
14th March 2019 By Leonard Allen
In a relatively quiet St Patrick’s weekend, there are only two games down for decision but both will have a bearing in their respective divisions.
In Divison 2A of the All Ireland League, Dolphin and Highfield go head-to-head at Irish Independent Park on Friday evening.
The Woodleigh Park side won the corresponding fixture 26-12 in October and will be looking to extend their lead at the top as they are five points ahead of second-placed Cashel.
A win for Highfield would mean a win on Saturday week at home to second-placed Cashel would see them crowned as champions and automatic promotion.
Dolphin are looking to avoid a second successive relegation as they have climbed up to seventh place on 29 points, following their 28-0 victory over Galwegians at Crowley Park last time out but their run in is against sides battling for a promotion play-off, so they still need points to avoid being drawn back into the relegation battle.
The destination of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior League title will be decided on Sunday as former champions Clonmel, who are one point behind Newcastle West in second place, lock horns with last season’s winners Bandon in South Tipperary.
Clonmel just need two points from this contest to regain the trophy that they held for the three previous seasons, but Bandon will not make it easy for them.
