Weekend Results & Bank Of Ireland Munster Junior Cup Round Up

The line-up for the quarter finals of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup have been decided after completion of the fourth round this weekend.

Highfield had a surprising facile win over Shannon at Woodleigh Park defeating them 56-0 to set up an away tie with Young Munster in two weeks time.

Highfield scored ten tries with Colin O’Neill scoring two and Eddie Earl, Paddy Butler, Colin Lougheed, Kieran Duggan, George French, Martin Gately, Paddy O’Toole and Dave Kelly all getting one each. Paul Downes kicked three conversions.

Newcastle West won the west Limerick derby with a 22-15 away win at Abbeyfeale. Their reward will be a home quarter final against the holders Cork Constitution. Sean Murphy, Damian Kelly and Gerard Griffin scored tries for Newcastle West and Sean Herlihy converted two of them and also added a penalty. Liam O’Connor and Kieran McCarthy replied with tries for Abbeyfeale. Stephen Daly kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Cashel needed extra time before seeing off the challenge of last year’s defeated finalists Richmond with a 13-11 win at Richmond Park. They will now host U.C.C. in the last eight.

Two penalties from Eamonn Connolly gave Cashel a 6-0 half time lead but two penalties from Brian Mullins sent the game into extra time. A Michael Kelly try converted by Connolly put Cashel 13-6 ahead at the end of the first period of extra time but a Keelan Stephenson try was not enough to keep Richmond in the competition.

Clonmel proved too strong for Clanwilliam running out 32-13 winners and setting up a home quarter final against Kilfeacle. Tony Cantwell, Luke Noonan, Luke Hogan, Conor Pearson and Shay Vandam scored tries for Clonmel and Dylan Cadogan kicked three conversions and a penalty. David McCormack and Darragh Crowe replied with tries for Clanwilliam and Darragh Burke kicked a penalty.

In the Munster Junior League a sensational finish at Kanturk as a last minute try for St. Senan’s earned them a losing bonus point and a bonus four point try which was enough to secure their status in the First Division while it also condemned Kanturk to the Second Division.

Kanturk went into this tie knowing they need a bonus point win and deny their opponents anything from this game.

Tries from Denis O’Donoghue, Conor Cremin, Eoghan O’Sullivan, Conor O’Sullivan and a penalty try looked like Kanturk were on their way to achieving their goal as Cremin kicked two conversions.

But two tries from Warren Kelly and one apiece by Fernando Gallant and Aidan Dwyer denied the Duhallow side their First Division status as Craig Airey converted three of the tries.

Crosshaven defeated Waterpark 20-17 but the losing bonus point was enough for Waterpark to maintain their status. Brian Scriven, Said Koya and Cian McGovern scored tries for Crosshaven and McGovern kicked a penalty and a conversion. Alex Molloy and Alex Deggan replied with tries for Waterpark and Glenn Kavanagh converted both tries and added a penalty.

In Division Two Thurles and Charleville played a 6-6 draw a result that could keep Thurles above the drop zone should Ballincollig fail to win their final league game at home to Fermoy. John Lillis kicked two penalties for Thurles and Jesse Smith replied with two for Charleville.

Dungarvan will face Killarney to decide who will be promoted along with Tralee from the Third Division following their 17-3 home win over Ennis. Alan McMahon and Seamus Keating scored tries for Dungarvan and David Hickey converted both and also added a penalty. Ronan O’Halloran replied with a penalty for the Clare side.

Kinsale defeated Ballincollig 46-14 at Tanner Park to book their place in the final of the O’Neill Cup against the winners of the Charleville v Muskerry tie.

Rob Armstrong and Philip Walters each scored two tries and Fergus Gimblett, Joe Lyons and Jordan O’Regan were Kinsale’s try scorers. Armstrong kicked four conversions and Sean Kingston adde4d a penalty. Cathal Owens replied with a try for Ballincollig and Billy Newman kicked two penalties.
