Sunday’s Well ensure survival in the Ulster Bank League with a home win over Suttonians as Kanturk lift the O’Neill Cup for the third time.

Sunday’s Wellmade sure of avoiding relegation in Division 2B of the Ulster Bank League with a 17-3 home win over Suttonians in their outstanding fixture.

Playing into a strong wind in the opening half, the ‘Well dominated the early exchanges but failed to put points on the board. Daire Higgins was off target with a penalty effort for Suttonians ten minutes before the break but made amends a minute later to give his side the lead. Shane O’Riordan levelled with a penalty on the stroke of half time.

Two penalties by O’Riordan had the home side 9-3 in front after fifty four minutes and a great drive by the ‘Well pack saw the ball spread out the back line for winger Charlie O’Donoghue to score. O’Riordan completed the scoring with his fourth penalty six minutes from time.

Kanturkended their best ever season with silverware when they defeated Bandon in the final of the O’Neill Cup at Rathcooney 37-8 to lift the trophy for the third time. Kanturk ran in five tries with Gary Piggott getting two and Paul Cotter, John O’Sullivan and Pierre Palmasano getting one each. Paul Earlie kicked two penalties and three conversions for the Duhallow side. Bandon replied with a try from Jerry Crowley and a penalty by Kevin South.

Young Munsterbooked their place in the final of the Transfield Cup where they will meet holders Richmond with an 18-0 win over Presentation at Tom Clifford Park. Craig O’Hanlon and Eamon Carr scored tries for the winners and Shane O’Leary added two penalties and a conversion.

A late rally by Nenagh Ormond saw them book their place in the final of the Garryowen Cup with a 16-3 home victory over last week’s Mansergh Cup winners Clonmel. Donal Fogarty opened the scoring with a penalty for Nenagh after twenty minutes for a 3-0 interval lead. Conor Cooney had Clonmel level five minutes into the second half but Fogarty restored the home side’s advantage with a penalty mid way through the half. Three minutes from time Dean Wallace got in for a Nenagh try and Fogarty converted and also added a penalty in injury time.

Nenagh will now face Cashel in the final after Clanwilliam and Galbally gave walk over’s to Cashel.

Thomonddefeated Carrigaline 15-12 at Fitzgerald Park to reach the final of the Munster Junior Two League where they will meet the winners of next week’s semi final between Dolphin and Garryowen, John Ryan and Stuart Ryan were try scorers for Thomond and Kenneth McNamara kicked a conversion and a penalty. Kevin Foley and John Tait replied with tries for Carrigaline and Tait added a conversion.

Bruff booked their place in the final of the Webb Cup with a 25-19 victory over Garryowen in the semi final at Kilballyowen Park.

Dolphin defeated Waterpark 49-31 at Ballinakill to book a meeting with arch rivals Cork Constitution in the final of the South Munster Under 21 Cup. Dolphin ran in seven tries with Eamon Mills scoring two and Rob O’Herlihy, Enda Carroll, Bryan O’Rahelly, Rory Cullinane and Eoin Shaughnessy each getting one apiece. Mills kicked two conversions and a penalty, Shaughnessy and Danny O’Brien added a conversion each and John Clery kicked a drop goal. Tom Kiersey replied with two tries, two conversions and a penalty for Waterpark and Jeff Power and Damien O’Dwyer also scored tries.

U.C.C.won the Munster Junior Three South Bowl Final at the Mardyke defeating Douglas in a very exciting contest 24-17.

The holders got off to a great start when Alan Walsh scored an early try for Douglas which Dave Murphy converted. Midway through the half the students Barry Power and Walsh exchanged penalties before a two try blitz by the students just before half time swung the game in their favour with Chris Buckley and Colin Wong crossing the white wash and Power converting both for a 17-10 interval lead.

Buckley scored a second try mid way through the second half and Power converted to extend College’s advantage to fourteen points. Douglas rallied in the final ten minutes and were rewarded with a second try by Walsh which Murphy converted but despite a last gasp effort by the holders to send the game into extra time the College defence stood firm.
