Weekend Roundup

There were victories for Dolphin and U.L. Bohemian in their respective Charity Cup Finals at the weekend.

U.L. Bohemian 18, Young Munster 11

Tommy O'Donnell gave an outstanding performance for UL Bohemian who won the Limerick Charity Cup for the first time since 2005 at Thomond Park.

Young Munster were chasing their fourth win in a row and they put in a storming final ten minutes during which they were held on the UL Bohemian try line on two occasions.

Under 20s international JJ Hanrahan kicked an early penalty to settle UL Bohemian nerves and he then converted O'Donnell's first try and the back row had his second touchdown to make it 15-0 at the interval.

Lucas Kunz had an early second half try for the Cookies and Willie Staunton kicked two penalties to make it 15-11 before Hanrahan landed another UL Bohemian penalty.

Dolphin 16, Highfield 9.

Dolphin had to come from behind to retain their Cork Charity Cup title with a strong second half display at Woodleigh Park.

Highfield had the better of the chances in the opening half and if their out half Paddy O’Toole had his kicking boots on there could have been a sensational upset as he kicked three of the six penalty attempts that came his way.
Dolphin were very sluggish in the opening half and trailed 9-3 at the break with Garret O’Suilleabhain kicking a penalty for Dolphin.

The holders were a different side in the second half and were ahead after four minutes of the second half when a rolling maul saw Miah Cronin touchdown for the game’s only try and O’Suilleabhain converted.
Two further penalties by the Dolphin full back saw them hold out for victory as Highfield never gave up as they tried to force extra time in the closing stages.

Elsewhere Kilfeacle reached the final of the Garryowen Cup after their 15-0 away win over Clanwilliam. John Crompton and Shane Luby scored tries for the winners and Luby kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Cashel defeated Thurles 29-8 to reach the semi final where they will face Nenagh Ormond.

There were victories for Garryowen, Richmond and St Mary’s in the Transfield Cup who will be joined by Newcastle West in the semi finals.

Tralee reached the final of the McElligott Cup with a 48-12 away win over Corca Dhuibhne and must now await the winners of the semi final tie between Killorglin and Castleisland.

Carrigaline, Cork Constitution, Dolphin and Kinsale all advanced to the semi finals of the Dennehy Cup. Ray O’Donoghue scored two tries for Carrigaline in their 27-13 away win over Cobh Pirates. Ciaran O’Shea, Peter Kelleher and Kieran Kelleher scored tries for the winners and Peter Kelleher added a conversion.
