A strong second half fight back by Clontarf saw them snatch a late victory at Temple Hill as Young Munster maintained their challenge in Division 1A of the Men’s All Ireland League.

A strong first half performance by Cork Constitution was not enough as they lost at home to leaders Clontarf 20-16, a result that sees them slip down to sixth place in the table. Sean French was Cork Con’s try scorer and James Taylor converted and kicked three penalties.

Young Munster ran in five tries in their impressive 36-21 win over Lansdowne at Tom Clifford Park. The home side who led 26-7 at halftime were in total control of this contest and had tries from Manuel Convella, Jake O’Riordan, Christian Foley, Hubert Gilvarry and Stephen McLoughlin. Julian Leszczynski kicked four conversions and a  penalty.

Ballynahinch proved too strong for Garryowen winning 33-7 at Ballymacarn Park. Jack Daly scored the visitors try and Dylan Hicks converted.

A strong finish by Nenagh Ormond in Division 1B, saw them snatch a 31-22 win over Highfield at Woodleigh Park, as the Tipperary side maintain their promotion bid for a place in the topflight of Irish Rugby, and this sees Highfield prop up the table four points off safety. Nicky Irwin, Dylan Murphy and Ben Pope scored tries for Nenagh and Conor McMahon kicked two conversions and four penalties. Highfield who led 14-13 at the interval had tries from Richard Cassidy, Darragh Fitzgerald and Eoin Dorgan. Shane O’Riordan kicked two conversions and a penalty.

UCC’s recent great run came unstuck at Naas as they lost to the Kildare side 34-30. Sam O’Sullivan, Jack Casey, Adam Wrona, and Andrew O’Mahony scored tries for the Cork Students. Daniel Squires kicked two conversions and Darragh French added two drop goals.

Shannon eased their relegation worries with a 20-15 home win against fellow relegation candidates Dublin University. The Limerick side who trailed 10-3 at the interval had tries from Oisin Minogue and Alex Long. John O’Sullivan converted both and also added two penalties.

Cashel moved level on points with leaders Galway Corinthians in Division 2A after their 25-22 away win at Greystones. Tom Tobin, Marcello Frati and Ed Kelly scored tries for Cashel, with Ben Twomey kicking two conversions and two penalties.

Old Crescent defeated bottom side Buccaneers 43-12 at Takumi Park. Joe McEnery, Jake Considine, John Moloney, Niall Hardiman, Brian Molloy, Jamie Duggan and Werner Hoffman were the Crescent try scorers. John Hurley converted four of the tries.

U.L. Bohemian  defeated leaders Wanderers 26-24 in Division 2B to move back into the promotion places at the 4G UL pitch. Killian Dineen, Sean Quirke, Cian Regan and Paul Clancy were the U.L. Bohs try scorers. Oisin Fagan converted three of the tries.

Dolphin have moved to the top of Division 2C after their 43-14 home win against Monkstown. Craig O’Connell (2), Eoghan Herlihy, Philip Dowling and Scott Sexton were the Dolphin try scorers. They were also awarded a penalty try. Daryl Foley kicked four conversions and a penalty.

Midleton slipped to second place but are level on points with Dolphin after their 18-11 away win at Tullamore. Johannes du Toit and Rian Hogan scored tries for Midleton and Jack Colbert kicked a conversion and two penalties.

Clonmel continued their recent good run with a 29-21 home win against Belfast Harlequins. Harry Buttimer and Dylan Cadogan scored tries for the Tipperary side and Josef O’Connor converted both and also added five penalties.

Bruff are now bottom of the table after their 35-19 home defeat by Enniscorthy. Kieran O’Dwyer scored Bruff’s try which John Bateman converted. Paul Collins kicked four penalties.

In the Women’s AIL, U.L. Bohemian defeated Cooke 94-0 scoring 15 tries. Chisom Ugwueru (6), Alana McInerney (2), Lucia Linn, Kate Flannery, Beth Buttimer, Claire Bennett, Clodagh O’Halloran, Chloe Pearse, Catriona Finn and Laoise McGonagle were the U.L. try scorers. Flannery kicked five conversions and Finn two.

Ballincollig lost at home to Old Belvedere 40-10. Laurileigh Baker scored Ballincollig’s try and Emma Connelly kicked a conversion and a penalty.

There was no joy for the four Munster sides in the opening round of the All Ireland Junior Cup, as all four were beaten.

Thomond lost at home to Dromore 32-16, despite being 10-3 ahead at halftime. Jake Connolly scored Thomond’s try and Jason Kiely converted and also kicked three penalties.

Hunter Cowan kicked two early penalties for Mallow, but two yellow cards allowed Bective Rangers get back into the game and allowed the Dublin side to run out 43-30 comfortable winners at the North Cork venue. Steven Finn, Cowan and Ryan Clifford were Mallow’s try scorers. Cowan converted all three tries and also kicked three penalties.

Two tries from Bob Purcell and a conversion and a penalty by Luke Heuston were not enough for Kilfeacle, who lost 27-15 away to Cooke.

Leinster league leaders Suttonians proved too strong for Newcastle West emerging 36-18 winners. Sean Murphy and Cian Mulcahy scored tries for the West Limerick side and Andrew Mortell added two penalties and a conversion.
