Three Munster sides share top spot in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League after the second series of games.

Defending champions Lansdowne lost for the second successive week, when Cork Constitution defeated them 33-16 at Temple Hill to go top of Division 1A. Two tries from James Ryan and one by Cathal Quinn gave the home side a 19-6 half time lead. Darragh Lyons kicked two conversions and Scott Deasy replied with two penalties for the visitors.
Con’ continued to dominate the second half and tries from Niall Kenneally and Willie Ryan extended their lead to 33-6 with Lyons converting both. Lansdowne rallied in the final minutes and had tries from Cian Aherne and Brian O’Callaghan.

Dolphin moved up to second place after their 15-10 home win over St. Mary’s College. The sides were tied 10-10 at half time. Steve Hansel scored Dolphin’s try and Rory Scannell converted and also added a penalty. In a dour second half Darren Sweetnam scored the all important try to clinch the points for Dolphin.

Young Munster also made it two wins from two after their 29-16 home win over Ballynahinch. Tries from Lukas Kunz and Derry O’Connor and three penalties by Brian Haugh gave the home side a 19-6 interval lead. O’Connor and Shane O’Brien scored second half tries to secure the bonus point win.

Garryowen are propping up the table after their 33-3 away defeat by Clontarf. Jamie Gavin kicked a first half penalty for the Dooradoyle side.

U.L. Bohemian bounced back from last week’s defeat with a 23-17 win over Belfast Harlequins at Annacotty in their Division 1A tie..
The sides were tied 10-10 at half time with Robert Bourke scoring a try for Bohes and David Johnson converting and also adding a penalty. Ed Kelly scored a second try for the home side after the break and Shane Airey converted. Johnson and Airey each added a penalty to give Bohes the points.

Shannon are still looking for their first points of the campaign as they suffered another defeat away to Corinthians 30-16. A try by Niall Horan and a conversion and penalty by Tadhg Bennett saw Shannon trail 16-10 at half time, but their only reply after the break were two penalties from Bennett.

In Division 2A Old Crescent won the Friday night derby under lights at Rosbrien in front of a large crowd, defeating Bruff 17-9. The home side led 7-6 at half time with a try from Kevin Meade which he also converted to two penalties from Declan Bannon. Alan Bennie scored a second try for Crescent and Meade converted and also added a penalty. Bruff’s only reply was a third penalty from Bannon.

Ballymena are the only side with maximum points in this Division after their 40-8 win over Highfield at Woodleigh Park. Wayne Falvey scored a second half try for the home side and Mark O’Driscoll kicked a penalty.

U.C.C. defeated Bective Rangers 13-3 at Donnybrook. Kevin Kidney scored a try for the students and Sean Og Murphy kicked a conversion and two penalties.

Nenagh Ormond have maximum points in Division 2B after their 57-10 away win over D.L.S.P.

Midleton’s Chris Walker kicked six penalties, a drop goal and converted tries by Kieran Burns and Aidan McCarthy for a 35-3 home win over Ards.

No joy for the other Munster sides in this Division as Thomond lost away to Tullamore 19-16, Richmond were beaten 37-16 at home to Greystones.

Four penalties by Shane O’Riordan saw Sunday’s Well lose at home to City of Armagh 23-12.

In the opening games in the Munster Junior League Division One Kilfeacle were the only side to pick up maximum points after their 34-19 home win over Old Christians. David Heaphy, Tom Maher and Shane Barry scored tries for the Cork side and Stuart Lee added two conversions.

Clonakilty edged out Kanturk 15-14 with tries from Sean White and Paul Lombard and Ciaran Calnan kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Both newcomers Muskerry and Mallow lost. At Ballyanly Clonmel defeated Muskerry 18-7. Ronan Crosse and Mark Corby scored tries for the Tipperary side and Morgan Lyons kicked two penalties and Brian Lonergan a conversion. Muskerry were awarded a penalty try and JJ Herlihy converted.

Mallow lost away to Newcastle West 8-0. Sean Herlihy kicked a penalty and James Kelly scored a try in the opening half.

Tries from Eoin Geary and John Kidney saw Cobh Pirates defeat Galbally 10-0.

St. Mary’s defeated Waterpark 20-12 at Ballinakill where Darragh Power and David Hughes scored tries for the home side and Geoff Deegan kicked a conversion.

A late rally by Tralee saw them come from 16-9 down with eight minutes remaining to win 19-16 at Skibbereen.

Three sides had bonus points win in the Division Two. Bandon defeated Crosshaven 30-15. Eamon Ring and Kenny O’Donovan scored tries for Crosshaven and Ian Smyth kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Kinsale were 26-18 home winners over Youghal. Ian Costello scored two tries for the winners and Peter Murphy and Sean Kingston got a try each. Murphy converted three of the tries.

Presentation defeated newly promoted Killorglin 27-14. Barry Sheehan and Brian Hayes scored tries for the Kerry side and Ciaran O’Connor converted both.

Thurles won the Tipperary derby defeating Clanwilliam 19-10. In the other games St. Senan’s defeated Castleisland 3-0, Killarney were 14-10 home winners against Ennis and Waterford City defeated Newport 12-6.

Highfield were 34-13 home winners over Midleton in the Munster Seconds League South. Michael Morris, David Kilcoyne, Niall O’Brien, Fintan O’Sullivan and Dave O’Callaghan were try scorers for the ‘field and Darragh O’Keeffe kicked three conversions and a penalty.

Highfield’s thirds also had a big win in the Junior Two League South when they defeated U.C.C. 50-7. Chris Lyons, Conor Pullin, Neal Griffin, Dave Eustace, Jason Collins, Bobby Cussen, Darren Walsh and Conor Barrett all scored tries Highfield and Eustace kicked five conversions.

A try by Andrew Quinlan converted by Barry Leahy was not enough for Shandon who lost at home to Kanturk 9-7.
