Weekend Round Up | Highfield Go Top In The All Ireland League

Highfield defeated leaders Navan to go top of Division 2A in the All Ireland League as Charleville shocked Mallow in the Junior Clubs Challenge Shield.

Highfield ended Navan’s unbeaten run in Division 2A of the All Ireland League with a 40-10 home victory. Highfield did most of the damage in the opening half as they led 33-5 at half-time.

Dave O’Sullivan scored two tries for Highfield, Luke Kingston, Michael Dillane, Gavin O’Leary and Eddie Earle got one each with Shane O’Riordan kicking five conversions.

Cashel moved up to second place a point behind the leaders after their 22-8 away win at Blackrock College. Jason Newton and Aidan McDonald scored tries for Cashel, who were also awarded a penalty try. Jonty Rae kicked a conversion and a penalty.

A last minute drop goal by Alex Ropeti earned Nenagh Ormond a 24-23 home win over Dolphin. John Coffey scored two tries for Nenagh who were also awarded a penalty try. Ropeti converted both tries. Conor Flanagan, Emmet McCarthy and John Fitzgerald scored tries for Dolphin and Daryl Foley kicked two penalties and a conversion.

UL Bohemian continue their climb up the table with a 36-24 win over Queens University at Annacotty. Joe Bennett scored two tries for the Limerick side and Joe Murray, Oige Scannell and Harry Fleming got one each. Robbie Bourke kicked a penalty and four conversions, two of them touch line conversions.

Old Crescent got back to winning ways with a 13-12 away win over bottom side Galwegians. Gary Fitzgerald scored a try for Crescent and Ronan McKenna converted and added two penalties.

In Division 2B Sunday’s Well’s play-off hopes received a setback when they lost at home to Wanderers 22-17. Ian Murphy scored a try for the ‘Well and they were also awarded a penalty try. Eoin Geary kicked a penalty and Peter O’Brien a conversion.

Division 2C leaders bounced back after last week’s surprising defeat by Malahide with a 38-15 away win at Thomond. Bryan Moore, Rob Carey, Stuart Lee, Aidan Ware and Charlie Murphy scored tries for Midleton and Lee converted all five tries and also added a penalty. Eoin Carr and Ritchie Ryan scored tries for Thomond and Evan Cusack kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Bruff continued their recent good run with a 15-10 away win at Bangor. Liam Treacy and Cian Clifford scored tries for Bruff and Kevin McManus added a conversion and a penalty.

Clonmel have booked their place in the semi-final of the All Ireland Junior Cup with a 301-8 home win over CIYMS. James Corbett, Dylan Cadogan, Luke Noonan and Shay Vandam scored tries for Clonmel. Darren Cass kicked two penalties and Cadogan added two conversions.

A Glenn Kavanagh penalty was not enough for waterpark who lost at home to holders Ashbourne 23-3.

A last minute try by Shane Halpin converted by Brian Mullins earned Richmond a 41-39 victory over St. Senan’s in the quarter finals of the Junior Clubs Challenge Cup. Keelan Stephenson, Ger Barry, Eoin Lynch, Jonathan Tully and Stephen Collins also scored tries for Richmond. Mullins kicked four conversions and a penalty.

Dale O’Loughlin scored two tries for Senan’s and Rob Phelan, Eoghan McCoy and Conor Ferns got one each. Craig Airy kicked four conversions and two penalties.

Kilfeacle defeated local rivals Clanwilliam 29-10 with tries from Dan Lowry, Michael Slattery, Stephen Quirke and Cian Ryan. Brodie Flannery kicked three conversions and a penalty. Bryan O’Rahelly was Clanwilliam’s try scorer and Niall Leahy kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Charleville defeated Mallow 11-9 in the Junior Clubs Shield. Ger Sheehan scored a try for Charleville and Michael O’Flynn and Altus Meyer each kicked a penalty. Dave Breen replied with three penalties for Mallow.

Holders Clonakilty defeated Kinsale 22-15 with tries from Damien Kozik, Ger McCarthy and Courtney Canning. Shane Deasy kicked two conversions and Maurice Shanley added a penalty. Rob Armstrong scored two tries for Kinsale and John Sheehan kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Holders Ennis edged out local rivals Scariff 18-17 with a late penalty from Sean Hayes to advance to the semi-final of the Martin O’Sullivan Cup. Mark Taylor and Adam Ryan scored tries for Ennis and Hayes kicked two penalties and a conversion.
