Tomas Quinlan kicked three penalties and two conversions In Cork Constitution's 23-17 victory over Highfield

Holders Cork Constitution will face Young Munster in the Final of the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup at Irish Independent Park in December after semi-final wins this weekend.

At Tom Clifford Park Young Munster did not have things their own way at home to Cashel before emerging 26-7 winners. Keelan Stephenson, Jason Kiely and Fintan Gleeson scored tries for “the Cookies” and Evan Cusack kicked three penalties and a conversion. Cashel replied with a try from Brendan Crosse which Aidan McDonald converted.

Holders Cork Constitution defeated Highfield 23-17. Con’ led 23-7 at half time and had to withstand a great second half challenge from Highfield. Niall Kenneally and Ryan Foley scored tries for the Temple Hill side and Tomas Quinlan converted both and added three penalties. Chris Bannon and Timmy Ryan replied with tries for Highfield and Shane O’Riordan converted both and added a penalty.

The opening games in the Munster Junior League produced some shock results.

The shock of the day was the Division One clash at The Vale where Clonakilty defeated neighbours Bandon 21-17 in a west Cork derby. Peter Shallow and Victor Lovell scored tries for Clonakilty and Mark Purcell kicked three penalties and a conversion. Bandon replied with tries from Enda Phelan and Kerry Desmond with Desmond adding two conversions and a penalty.

Last season’s Division Two champions Mallow had to come from 10-0 down at half time to defeat Clanwilliam 26-10. Pérez Mazas, Timmy Fitzgerald, Owen Glynn and Conor O’Donovan scored tries for Mallow with Jimmy Glynn converting three of the tries. Gavin Downey replied with a try for the visitors and Niall Leahy converted and also added a penalty.

Thomond lost their opening game following their relegation after nineteen years in the All Ireland League when Kilfeacle defeated them 25-17. Kevin Kinnane, John Bourke and Brian McLoughlin scored tries for Kilfeacle and Willie Staunton kicked two conversions and two penalties. Warren Kelly and Peter Connolly replied with tries for Thomond and Adam Guerin converted both and also added a penalty.

Richmond defeated Waterpark 32-22 in a high scoring contest at the Limerick venue.

Stephen Collins, Ryan Meagher, Keith McCarthy and Brian Mullins scored tries for Richmond with Mullins converting three and adding two penalties. Paddy Kiersey, George McDermott and John Flynn replied with tries for Waterpark. Flynn kicked a conversion and a penalty and John O’Regan also added a conversion.

Crosshaven lost 23-11 at home to Newcastle West. Michael Bourke scored two tries for the winners and Sean Herlihy converted both and added three penalties. Jamie Kind scored Crosshaven’s try and Ian Smith added two penalties.

Skibbereen also came from behind to defeat St. Senan’s 19-18 with two tries from Donal Collins and one by Dan Duggan. Matthew Bushe kicked two conversions for the west Cork side. Declan Collins and Declan Rowe scored tries for the Clare side and Rowe added two penalties and a conversion.

Ballincollig and Muskerry were the only sides to record bonus point wins in Division Two.

Muskerry recorded the biggest win of the day when they travelled to Castleisland and won 60-3. Joe Treacy scored three tries with Conor Smith, Mark Jones, Brian McCarthy, Pat Rourke and Ciaran O’Connor were their other try scorers. Robert Cahill converted seven of the tries and also kicked two penalties. Joseph Sheehy replied with a penalty for the home side.

Ballincollig also made a good start with a 28-15 home win over Fethard. Michael Ward, Padraig Flynn, Ronan Hennessy and Billy Newman were try scorers for the Tanner Park outfit and Charlie Boland kicked a conversion and a penalty. Jonathan Spillane and Tommy Murphy scored tries for Fethard and Josef O’Connor added a penalty and a conversion.

St Mary’s had a 30-3 home win over newly promoted Tralee. Kevin McManus, Darragh Kerley and Paul Loughran scored tries for the Saints and Jazz Pendejito kicked three conversions and three penalties.

Three second half penalties from Paul O’Keeffe earned Kanturk a 9-5 home win over Charleville. Darren Butler scored a late try for the visitors.

Old Christians surprised a fancied Kinsale outfit 26-22 at Rathcooney. Craig O’Connell and Jimmy Ahern scored tries for Old Christians and John Marnell converted both and added four penalties. Fergus Gimblett, Fergal O’Brien and Shane O’Connor replied with tries for Kinsale. Sean Kingston kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Fermoy defeated Thurles 16-8 thanks to Eddie O’Connell who scored a try, conversion and three penalties. Shane Nugent replied with a try for Thurles and jack Flannigan kicked a penalty.

Cobh Pirates lost at home to newly promoted Dungarvan 19-7.

Ennis top Division Three after their 41-19 win over Douglas-Carrigaline at Wilton, Enda Galvin (2), Harry Talty, Ronan O’Halloran, Mikey Lyons, Cian Guilfoyle and Stephen Dolan were try scorers for Ennis. O’Halloran kicked three conversions. Padraig McSweeney, John O’Sullivan and Chris McCarthy replied with tries for the home side and McSweeney and Eoin Philpott each kicked a conversion.

Bantry Bay won the west Cork derby defeating Dunmanway 22-3 with tries from Gareth Murphy, Ian Hurley and James McGlinchey. Danny Hutchinson kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Youghal edged out Mitchelstown 15-13 with tries from Sean Hennessy, Scott O’Sullivan and Brendan Mackey. Pa Molloy scored Mitchelstown’s try and Pa Magee converted and kicked two penalties.

The Killorglin v Waterford City tie was postponed.
