Weekend Roundup And Results

Clonmel remain top of the Munster Junior League

Progress was made in some of the local competitions as sides gear up for the beginning of the Junior League next week.

Bandon the holders of the Cork County Cup lost their crown when Kanturk defeated them 31-27. David Fitzpatrick, Michael Bradley (2) and Brendan Kelleher were Kanturk’s try scorers and Con Cremin kicked four conversions and a penalty.

Bandon replied with tries from Santiago Gonzalez, Gearoid Crowley and Gearoid O’Leary. Rhys Earl converted all three tries and kicked two penalties.

Kanturk will now await the winners of the other semi-final between Skibbereen and Clonakilty.

The Transfield Cup is now at the semi-final stage after yesterday’s quarter finals ties.

Holders Richmond defeated Thomond 34-7 and will now face Shannon after the Coonagh side beat Old Crescent 44-22.

On the other side of the draw St Mary’s who overcame Young Munster 22-11 will face Newcastle West conquerors of St. Senan’s 29-13.

These semi-final ties are scheduled for the 19th November.

Crosshaven defeated Ballincollig 29-16 in the O’Neill Cup with two tries from Jamie Kind and one each by Darren O’Keeffe and James Burke. Ian Smith converted three of the tries and also added a penalty.

Crosshaven will now meet the holders Kinsale in the last four which will be a repeat of last season’s final after Kinsale defeated Mitchelstown 21-12 in their quarter final tie. David Norris and Tom O’Callaghan were Mitchelstown’s try scorers and O’Callaghan kicked a conversion.

Killarney began their McElligott Cup campaign with a 15-3 home win over Chorca Dhuibhne. Mike Sheahan scored two tries for the winners and Brendan Fuller got one.

Holder’ Cork Constitution defeated Highfield 9-8 in a thrilling Dennehy Cup semi-final. David Murphy was Highfield’s try scorer and David Eustace kicked a penalty.
