Weekend Round Up & Results

The weather yet again upset the weekend’s Junior League programme with thirty seven games due to be refixed over the coming weeks.
Only seven of the eighteen scheduled games went ahead.
Division 1 leaders Kilfeacle took another major step towards their second title with a 31-6 bonus point win over Waterpark. Tries from Brian McLoughlin, Kevin Kinane and Willie Staunton scored first half tries for Kilfeacle who led 17-6 at half time. Staunton added a conversion and John O’Flynn replied with two penalties for Waterpark. Kevin Daly and McLoughlin added further tries after the break and Staunton converted both.
The meeting of Mallow and Thomond was transferred to Musgrave Park and what a thrilling game it produced as fourth placed Thomond defeated third placed Mallow with a bonus point victory 27-22.
This win moves Thomond up to second place five points behind the leaders and almost guarantees them a place in the All Ireland Junior Cup next season.
Ryan Aherne, Warren Kelly, Eoin Sherlock and Luke Costello scored tries for Thomond and Adam Guerin a converted two of the tries and also added a penalty. Mallow replied with tries from Owen Glynn, Sean Glynn and Brian Ward. Dave Breen kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Crosshaven got back to winning ways with a last minute converted try to beat Abbeyfeale 19-17 in a game that was moved from Crosshaven to Musgrave Park. Darren O’Keeffe, Eric Allen and Kealon Daly were Crosshaven’s try scorers. Cian McGovern kicked the all-important conversion. Derry O’Connor replied with two tries, two conversions and a penalty for Abbeyfeale.
Bandon travelled to Galbally and defeated the home side 15-9. Matthew Crowley scored a try for Bandon who were also awarded a penalty try. Ben Ridgeway kicked a penalty. John Kerins replied with three penalties for the home side.
In Division Two Kinsale defeated Dungarvan 8-3 a result that keeps both sides in with an outside chance of promotion. Fergus Gimblett scored Kinsale’s try and Sean Kingston kicked a penalty. Dave Hickey replied with a penalty for the visitors.
A last minute penalty by Paul Loughran earned St. Mary’s a 24-22 home win over Thurles. Darragh Kerley and Adam Kiely scored tries for the saints and Loughran converted both. Nick Irwin, Paddy McGrath and Bob O’Donovan replied with tries for Thurles. Jack Flanagan kicked two conversions and one penalty.
The two unbeaten sides in Division Three went head to head in Tralee with Killorglin defeating Ennis 13-7 in a game that was moved from Killorglin. Killorglin lead 6-0 at half time with two penalties from Luke O’Shea. Ten minutes from time Stephen Cotter scored a try for Killorglin and O’Shea converted. Ennis hit back when Mikey Lyons scored an intercept try for Ennis which Sean Hayes converted.
In a Munster Senior League Division 1 game at the Mardyke three penalties from Eoin Monahan gave U.C.C. a 9-0 win over Highfield.
In the Junior Three League South Kinsale defeated Killarney 25-19. Joe Lyons, Eddie Farrell, Billy McQuaid, Paudie O’Connor and Gordon O’Sullivan scored tries for Kinsale.
