Weekend Roundup & Results

Silverware was handed out in Cork and Kerry as progress is made several local competitions.

Newcastle West reached the final of the Transfield Cup where they will face Thomond after a convincing 59-5 win over Richmond. Jason Corbett and Sean Murphy scored 2 tries for the winners and Daniel Normoyle, Michael Burke and Cian Tierney got one each. They were also awarded two penalty tries. Sean Hayes and Shane Airey each kicked three conversions. Brian Bennett replied with a try for Richmond.

Two penalties from Ben Ridgeway was not enough for Bandon as they exited the County Cup after a 13-6 defeat by Crosshaven. Graham Smith was Crosshaven’s try scorer and Ian Smith converted and added two penalties.

Kinsale and Charleville will contest the O’Neill Cup final. Kinsale defeated Ballincollig 32-5. Fergus Gimblett and Josh Barrett scored two tries each for Kinsale and Mark O’Connell and Ritchie Callanan got a try each. Conall Gilleran kicked one conversion.

Charleville were 15-6 winners over Mitchelstown. A try from Jack Barrett gave Charleville a 5-3 interval lead. Eoin O’Carroll scored a second try for Charleville and Jessie Smith converted and also added a penalty. Sean Coughlan kicked two penalties for Charleville.

Cork Constitution took the first silverware of the season defeating Mallow 32-11 to reclaim the Dennehy Cup last Friday night. Ger Sweeney, Billy Newman, James Costello and Pat Foley scored triers for the winners. Robin O’Flynn kicked two penalties and two conversions and Billy O’Regan also added a conversion. Kenneth Mills scored a try for Mallow and James Hall kicked two penalties.

Muskerry defeated Sunday’s Well 38-0 to win the O’Sullivan (Muskerry) Cup.

In Kerry Tralee defeated holders Killorglin to win the McElligott Cup by 21-17. Timmy Lynch, Darragh O’Shea and Jamie O’Leary scored tries for Killorglin and Luke O’Shea kicked one conversion.

Chorca Dhuibhne defeated Castleisland 27-10 to claim the Galwey-Foley Cup and Killarney proved too strong for Listowel in the McGillycuddy Cup Final winning 38-12.
