Young Munster still remain top of the Munster Community Series Conference 1 after a win over local rivals Garryowen as Nenagh Ormond have taken control of Conference 2.

Two penalty tries proved crucial for Young Munster as they overcame the challenge of Garryowen 27-15 at Tom Clifford Park. .

Garryowen were reduced to thirteen with two yellow cards in the opening half. Conor Hayes gave Garryowen the lead with a penalty but a try from Hugh Worthington, a penalty try and a conversion and two penalties by Evan Cusack pushed the home side into a 20-3 lead.  Tries from Evan Maher and Cian Huxford and a conversion by Hayes closed the gap to five points but a second penalty try decided the outcome.

Converted tries from Ross O’Neill and James Murphy in the final twenty minutes earned Cork Constitution a 28-17 home win over Cashel. Con’s other try scorers were Cathal O’Flaherty and O’Neill with Aidan Moynihan converting all four tries. Mikey Wilson, Jack O’Rourke and Ciaran Ryan were Cashel’s try scorers and Darragh Lyons added a conversion.

Old Crescent came from 19-0 down to draw with U.C.C. 26-26 at the Mardyke. Matthew Bowen scored two tries for the students and Killian Coghlan and Ryan Murphy got one each. James Taylor kicked two conversions and Cian Whooley one. Daniel Hurley, Micheal O’Hanrahan, Sean Monaghan and Val McDermott replied with tries for Old Crescent and Ronan McKenna kicked three conversions.

Nenagh Ormond are in command of the top spot in Conference 2 after their 14-8 home win over U.L. Bohemian. John Hayes scored a try for the Tipperary side and Conor McMahon kicked three penalties. Darragh O’Gorman replied with a try and a penalty for U.L. Bohemian.

Bruff moved up to second spot after their 20-19 home win over Midleton. Trailing 19-10 at the interval second half tries from Brian Bulfin and Kieran Bennett earned them the points. Andrew O’Byrne added a try, conversion and a penalty in the opening half. Bryan Moore, Rob England and Fionn Bailey scored tries for Midleton and Stuart Lee converted two.

The Shannon v Highfield Conference 1 game and Sunday’s Well v Clonmel in Conference 2 were both cancelled.

U.L. Bohemian have opened up a gap after the second series of games in the Munster Women’s Conference 1 group after their 31-0 win over Kerry in Listowel.

Louise Galvin scored two tries for the winners and Edel Murphy, Ciara O’Halloran and Laura O’Mahony got one each. Louise Galvin kicked two conversions and Rachel Allen one.

Ballincollig defeated Shannon-LIT 36-3 at Coonagh. Tries from Christine O’Sullivan and Heather Kennedy and a conversion by Jessica Kelleher gave the Cork side a 12-3 half time lead. Two further tries from O’Sullivan, a try and conversion by Kennedy along with a Mona Fehily try and a conversion by O’Sullivan gave them their first points of the campaign.
