Cashel are crowned Munster Junior League champions and will now play in the All Ireland League next season and become Munster’s latest Senior club.

Thomond remain bottom of Division Two of the Ulster Bank League after their 39-12 away defeat by Ballymena. Kevin O’Mahoney kicked four penalties for the visitors.

To add to Thomond’s woes their Junior side were knocked out of the Munster Junior Cup by Garryowen 23-7 at Dooradoyle. Derry O’Connor scored two tries for the winners and Diarmuid McCarthy got one. Jamie Gavin kicked a penalty and a conversion and Conor Kilroy also added a penalty. Ger Finnucane scored a try for Thomond and Jeff Ryan converted.

Before a very large crowd at Richmond Park, Cashel won their third Munster Junior League title in four years with a 33-16 win over defending champions Richmond. This game was in the balance right up to the sixtieth minute but the Tipperary side finished the stronger scoring seventeen points in the final quarter without reply thanks to a Conor Quinlan drop goal and tries from Ed Leamy and Brendan O’Connor both converted by Darragh O’Brien.
Darragh Frawley kicked Richmond into an early 6-0 with two penalties but early injuries to both Michael Kelleher and James McDermott did not help the home side. Three penalties by O’Brien left it 9-6 to Cashel at the break.
Cian O’Connor extended Cashel’s advantage with a try ten minutes into the second half and O’Brien converted. Richmond hit back immediately with a try from Jeff McNamara which Frawley converted. A Frawley penalty tied up the scores but in the final twenty minutes the visitors took control.

The big issue now to be resolved is who will finish in the next four places behind Cashel and thus qualify for next season’s All Ireland Junior Cup.
Richmond are already assured of their place and Crosshaven just need two points from their two remaining games to qualify.

Crosshaven ran in eight tries in their 49-13 drubbing of Cobh Pirates a result that leaves the east Cork side still in danger of being relegated. Mick Buckley, Rob O’Connell, Andrew Lane, Teddy O’Donovan, Rob Savage, Cian McCarthy, Rob Barry and Chris Kearney all scored tries for the winners and Liam Delaney kicked a penalty and three conversions. Cobh had a try from Jason Anglim and a conversion and two penalties by Mark Chandler.

Kilfeacle remain in fourth place after their 29-17 home win over Skibbereen. Dingle Burke, James Nolan, Ian Burns, Jack Sullivan and Charles Walsh all scored tries for Kilfeacle and Shane Luby kicked two conversions. Sean O’Neill, Peter Stout, Matt Darby scored tries for Skibbereen and David Shannon converted one.

Tralee kept their hopes alive with a 72-7 home win over Thurles.

Old Christians hopes ended under the Rathcooney lights on Saturday night when they lost at home to Clanwilliam 23-17. The sides were level 12-12 at half time. Robert Doyle, Richard Childs and Ian Quinlan scored tries for the visitors and Brian Kissane added a conversion and two penalties. Conor Mangan, Peter Twomey and Brendan Culloty scored tries for the home side and Mangan kicked a conversion.

Ballincollig remain in bottom place after they lost at home to Waterpark 33-12. The sides were level 12-12 at half time with Shane Kavanagh and Colm Walsh scoring tries for Waterpark and Nick Clifford kicked a conversion. Paul Bohane and Mick Goggin scored tries for the home side and Keith Stafford converted one. Jared Dunbar, Jamie Walsh and Mick McCarthy added tries after the break for Waterpark and Clifford converted all three.

In the other game in the top flight Clonmel defeated St. Senan’s 18-8. The home side led 13-8 at half time with a try from Niall O’Brien and a conversion and two penalties by Danny Lyons. Aaron Skerritt scored a try for the Clare side and Jake Egan kicked a penalty. Greg Carroll added a try after the break for the home side.

In Division Two Galbally continued their unbeaten run with a 32-12 home win over Ennis. Kevin Casey, Tom Davern, Shane Flavin and Frank Cussen scored tries for the Limerick side and Darren Guerin kicked three conversions and two penalties.

Kanturk remain in second place after their 31-3 home win over Newport. Brian O’Neill and John O’Sullivan scored two tries each for the Duhallow side and Malcolm O’Leary one. Darragh Meade kicked two conversions and Stephen McAuliffe one.

Newcastle West maintained their challenge with an 18-10 away win over Muskerry. Tommy Kelleher and Declan Moloney scored tries for the winners and Kelleher kicked two penalties and a conversion. Aidan Murphy and Tim Keating replied with tries for the home side.

Mallow’s promotion hopes are nearly over after they lost 24-12 at home to Killarney. Tries by Chris O’Regan and Ivan Bolster and a conversion by Bryan Morris were the home side’s scorers.

Youghal’s late rally continues after their 30-26 home win over Castleisland. Alan Fox scored two tries for the winners and Stephen Twohig and Stephen Kenny one each. Keith McCarthy kicked two penalties and two conversions. Nathan Murphy, Ciaran Dowling and Michael O’Sullivan replied with tries for Castleisland and Mark Connolly kicked a conversion and three penalties.

Bandon eased their relegation worries with a 20-13 home win over St. Mary’s. Owen Sugrue scored two tries for the winners and Eoghan O’Donovan converted both and added two penalties.

Charleville defeated Kinsale 23-22 but are still in bottom place. Shane Corkery earned the points for the home side with a last minute penalty. Willie Sullivan and John O’Neill were try scorers for Charleville and Frankie Holly added two conversions and two penalties.

Presentation beat Kilrush 51-6 and now just need two more points to clinch promotion from Division Three. Mark Phair and David Coleman scored two tries each for Pres’ and Stephen Ryan, James Ryan, Ollie Delaney Eoghan Lynch and Colm Kerley got one each.

Dungarvan put a big dent on Waterford City’s promotion hopes with a 16-5 home victory. Johnny Cooney and Eoin Brown scored tries for Dungarvan and Conor Foley added two penalties. Jason Power replied with a try for Waterford.

James Kelly, Darren McNamara and Stephen Madden were try scorers for Scariff in their 22-7 home win over Douglas. Kelly kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Fermoy and Shandon produced a twelve try thriller at the north Cork venue after the home side emerged 45-29 winners. Both sides had secured a bonus point by half time as Fermoy led 26-22. Dave McCarthy, Joe Lee, Stephen Dunne and Shane O’Riordan scored tries for the home side with O’Riordan converting three. Conor Buckley scored two tries for Shandon and a conversion and Paul Hogan and Denis McKerling got one each. O’Riordan added two more tries and two conversions and Darren Roche a try for Fermoy in the second half, while Adrian Crowley scored a fifth try for Shandon and Buckley converted.

Cork Constitution defeated Kinsale 13-5 in the Junior Two Cup South. Rory O’Sullivan and Dave Hayes scored tries for the winners and Kevin Minihane added a penalty.

Carrigaline defeated Old Christians 18-11 with tries from Aodhan Bohane, Gavin O’Connell skipper Noel Kelleher. Donnacha Kiely added a drop goal.
