It was a disappointing weekend for the majority of Munster sides involved in the action in both the All Ireland League and All Ireland Junior Cup.

Cork Constitution remain unbeaten in Division 1A of the All Ireland League after their 26-20 win over Shannon at Coonagh.
Con’ raced into an early lead with a converted try and two penalties from Richard Lane, before Tadgh Bennett replied with a penalty for the home side before half time.
Lane made it 16-3 with a penalty early in the second half but a try by Sean Armstrong converted by Bennett closed the gap to six points. Cyprian Jouve extended the Cork side’s advantage with a try which Lane converted but Mossie Lawlor kept the home side in touch with a second try. A fourth penalty by Lane four minutes from time made it 26-15, but Shannon were rewarded with a bonus point when Ian Quinlan scored their third try.

Young Munster put in their worst performance this season when they lost at home to Old Belvedere 31-0.
Conal Keane put the visitors ahead with a penalty after seven minutes and doubled his side’s advantage with a second penalty while Munster’s scrum half Alan Kingsley was in the sin bin on 25 minutes.
Belvedere were reduced to thirteen when two of their players were shown yellow cards coming up to half time but still managed to extend their advantage to 11-0 with a try from
Jason Risdon two minutes before the break.
Keane extended Belvo’s advantage with a third penalty and converted a second try by Risdon on the hour mark. Keane brought his tally to fourteen points with a fourth penalty and Leo Auva scored a third for the Dubliners which Aidan Dunne converted.
To add to Young Munster's woes Darragh Payne was shown a straight red in stoppage time for a high tackle.

Garryowen picked up a valuable bonus point from their trip to Stradbrook despite losing to Blackrock College 16-11 to move into the top half of the table.
The sides were level 3-3 at half time with Declan Cusack kicking a penalty for Garryowen and Alan McGinty replied with a penalty for the home side.
Cusack extended the Dooradoyle side’s advantage with a try and drop goal to a second McGinty penalty but a late rally saw the home side score a try from Alex Dunlop and a conversion and penalty from McGinty sealed the points for Blackrock.

A second half come back at Musgrave Park by St. Mary’s College saw the Dublin side make it two successive wins with a 10-9 victory over Dolphin.
The home side led 3-0 at half time with a penalty from Barry Keeshan and the Dolphin out half doubled their advantage with a second penalty before the visitors pounced with a try by substitute David Campbell. A break by scrum half Matt Darcy inside his own Twenty Two sent Campbell racing away to score under the posts and Shaun McCarthy converted.
McCarthy extended Mary’s advantage with a penalty five minutes later, but Keeshan closed the gap to a point with his third penalty fourteen minutes from time.
However Keeshan was off target with a penalty effort seven minutes from time and with it went Dolphin’s chances of victory.

Bruff picked up their second win of the campaign with a narrow one point win over U.L. Bohemian at Kilballyowen Park in Division 1B.
Brian Cahill put the home side ahead with a penalty after two minutes but JJ Hanrahan had the visitors level after fourteen minutes. Hanrahan put U.L. in front with his second penalty but Bruff hit back with a try from Eoin Cahill to lead 8-6 at half time. Penalties from Tony Cahill and Brian Cahill extended Bruff’s advantage to 14-6.
Ed Kelly scored a try for the visitors which Hanrahan converted but a penalty miss by the U.L. kicker late in the game denied them victory and they had to settle for a losing bonus point.

U.C.C. lost heavily for the second time on the road when Buccaneers defeated them 45-15 scoring five tries in the second half.

Midleton had an exciting 18-17 away win over Trinity to move into fifth place in Division 2. Alan Long, Michael Cronin and Donogh Hurley scored tries for the East Cork side and Jeff Hitchmough kicked a penalty.

Old Crescent were no match for Malone at Gibson Park losing 33-14. John Noonan scored a try for the visitors and Lewis Patterson kicked three penalties.

Thomond picked up a losing bonus point despite going down at home to Bective Rangers 11-10. Leonard Slattery scored a try for the home side and JP Ryan kicked a conversion and penalty.

Clonakilty are in bottom place after their 40-20 home defeat by Old Wesley. Paul Dillon, Alfie Harte and James Deasy scored tries for the home side and David Paurini kicked a penalty and conversion.

Sunday’s Well winning streak came to an end in Division 3 at Fournoughts when Nass defeated them 20-11. Colin Corkery scored a try for the losers and Danny O’Shea kicked two penalties.

Highfield kept up their challenge for promotion with a 26-12 win over Wanderers at Woodleigh Park. James Cronin and Maurice Power scored tries for the home side and Colin Mahony kicked four penalties and two conversions.

It was a bad day for Munster sides in the All Ireland Junior Cup with only Crosshaven of the four sides taking part advancing to a quarter final place after their 49-24 away win over Dundalk.
Crosshaven who led 24-17 at half time ran in seven tries with Bobby Rodgers scoring three and Andrew Lane, Robbie Savage, Darren O’Keeffe and Graham Edwards getting one apiece. Cian McGovern kicked four conversions and two penalties.

The big shock of the day was Cashel’s 23-19 away defeat at Monivea. The Connacht champions who knocked Cashel out of last season’s competition led 10-3 at half time. Darragh O’Brien kicked a penalty for Cashel. O’Brien added three further penalties for the Tipperary side and converted a try by Brian Silke but it was not enough to preserve their unbeaten record.

A poor start by Tralee cost them dearly away to Armagh as they lost 34-23. It was 26-9 to the home side at half time with Brian Mullins kicking three penalties for the visitors. Garrett Walsh and John Morath scored tries after the break to bring the Kerry side into the game and both were converted by Walsh, but the Ulster side held on for a quarter final tie away to Sligo who defeated Tullamore 19-11.

A week Clonmel side were no match for Skerries as they lost away 59-5 to the only Leinster side to make it to the quarter finals. It was 17-0 to the home side at half time and four tries in the final five minutes by Skerries did not give a true reflection of the game. John Long was Clonmel’s try scorer.

A late rally by Galbally that saw them score a penalty and a try in the last five minutes gave them a 22-16 victory over Kinsale to retain their Munster Junior Clubs Shield title at Fermoy.
The Cork side dominated the opening half and went ahead with a penalty from Peter Murphy. Tadgh Wright extended their lead with a try which Murphy converted. Murphy and Darren Guerin exchanged penalties to leave Kinsale 13-3 ahead at half time.
Guerin reduced the deficit for Galbally with two penalties and a try by Kevin Casey put the Co. Limerick side ahead by a single point. Murphy restored Kinsale’s advantage with a penalty ten minutes from time but in the final five minutes Guerin kicked his fourth penalty and Alan O’Donnell scored a try to preserve Galbally’s unbeaten record this season.

In the Munster Seconds League Northern section U.L. Bohemian maintained their unbeaten run with a 48-15 win over Garryowen at Dooradoyle.
Thomond defeated Nenagh Ormond 17-12 and Young Munster defeated Shannon 19-6 at Tom Clifford Park.

Elsewhere the weather meant several games had to be postponed because of the weather.
In the Junior 2 League South the meeting of the two new Kerry clubs in Cahirciveen resulted in a 21-8 away win for Kenmare over Iveragh.
A penalty and drop goal from Bernard O’Connor gave Castleisland a 6-3 away win over Killarney and Tralee defeated Listowel 21-0.

Two penalties by Ricky Roycroft was not enough for Bandon who lost at home to Skibbereen in 9-6.

Clonakilty defeated Dunmanway 17-0. Sam Dignam, Ryan O’Flynn and Matt Kirby scored tries for the winners and Kirby kicked a conversion.

Fermoy defeated neighbours Mitchelstown 14-8 in a North Cork derby tie in the Junior Three League South. Jeff Daly and Cillian Tobin scored tries for Fermoy and Daly converted both.

Ballincollig continued their good run with a 23-3 away win over Bantry Bay. John Harvey, Matt Chapman and Barry Bohane scored tries for the winners and Paul Dinneen kicked two penalties and a conversion.
