Weekend Rugby Round Up

It was a mixed day for the Munster clubs in the opening round of the All Ireland Junior Cup as UL Bohemian continued their impressive start to their All Ireland League campaign.

U.L. Bohemian remain top of the All Ireland Women’s All Ireland League on points difference from Railway Union made it three wins from three after their eleven try 65-20 away win at Galwegians.

Clodagh O’Halloran (2), Stephanie Nunan, Fiona Reidy, Claire Bennett, Laura O’Mahony, Aoife Corkery, Rachel Allen, Lily Brady, Niamh Kavanagh and Edel Murphy scored tries for the winners. Nicole Fitzgerald kicked four conversions and Allen one.

Crosshaven the only Munster side to have won the All Ireland Junior Cup began their campaign in Belfast with a hard earned 25-21win over Instonians.

Sean Grey, Jamie Kind and Steve Curran scored tries for Crosshaven and Cian McGovern kicked two conversions and two penalties.

Kilfeacle, who lost the final two years ago to Ashbourne 18-9, began their campaign with a 28-19 home win over Wicklow. Kilfeacle who led 18-0 at half time had tries from Killian Noonan, Kevin Kinane and Ricky Whitney with Willie Staunton converting two and adding three penalties.

Richmond recent poor run continued when they lost at home to Grosvenor of Belfast 41-15. Shane Halpin and Barry Laden scored tries for Richmond and Sean Considine added a penalty and a conversion.

Newcastle West lost away to Dromore 38-10 with Sean Herlihy scoring a try, conversion and a penalty.

Galbally won their bottom of the table clash away to St. Senan’s 29-17 in the First Division of the Munster League. Patrick Shanahan scored two tries for the winners and Jack Donovan and Martin Mulvery got one each. John Kearns converted three of the tries and also added a penalty. Davy Dunne replied with tries for Senan’s and Declan Rowe converted both and also added a penalty.

Killorglin moved into second place in Division Three with a 31-9 home win over Waterford City. Josh Morell scored two tries for Killorglin and John Cronin O’Reilly and Seamus Doyle got one each. Luke O’Shea converted all four tries and also kicked a penalty.
