Weekend Rugby Roundup

Charity Cup finalists in both Cork and Limerick were confirmed at the weekend

Holder’s Young Munster will host U.L. Bohemian in next week’s final of the Limerick Charity Cup. The defending champions defeated Garryowen at Clifford Park last Friday night 26-14. The sides were level 6-6 at half time with Willie Staunton kicking two penalties for the Cookies and Jamie Gavin replying for the Light Blues. Tries by Ger Bourke and Tom Goggin both converted by Staunton who also added two penalties saw the home side advance. Corey Hircock replied with a try for Garryowen and Gavin kicked a penalty.

At Coonagh UL Bohemian, back in Division 1A for the upcoming All Ireland League, scored five tries when trouncing Shannon to qualify for the Limerick Charity Cup final for the first time since 2007.
Tries by Keith McManus and Rory White inside thirteen minutes created the platform for the big win.
By half time UL Bohemian led by 13-9 and they dominated totally in the second half with further tries by Martin McPhail, Ed Kelly and Finbarr Ahern.
Ben Martin converted three of the tries, kicked two penalties and dropped a goal with Ben Sergeant kicking three penalties for Shannon.

In Cork it will be a repeat of last season’s final when Dolphin and Highfield reached the decider.
Holder’s Dolphin were too strong for Midleton at the Town’s Park emerging 40-14 winners.

It was a closer affair at Cashel when Highfield caused a surprise with a narrow 24-23 win over the Tipperary side.
