Clontarf and Cork Constitution will meet in this season’s Ulster Bank League final in what will be a repeat of last year’s decider which Clontarf won 28-25.
Tomás Quinlan was Cork Constitution’s hero in their 19-16 win over Lansdowne on the back pitch in the Aviva Stadium. An injury time penalty by Quinlan sent the visitors through to the decider. Lansdowne led 10-9 at half time with Quinlan kicking three penalties for the Temple Hill side. The second half was end to end stuff and a Liam O’Connell try converted by Quinlan looked good enough to send Con’ through until Scott Deasy levelled five minutes from time with a penalty but Quinlan’s added time penalty decided the outcome.
At Castle Avenue Young Munster suffered their third successive semi final defeat when Clontarf defeated them 37-29. Two tries and a conversion from Alan Tynan had Young Munster trail 17-12 at half time but the home took complete control in the second half. The visitors were awarded a penalty try and Jack Lyons also scored a try with Tynan converting both and also adding a penalty.
The Division 1B playoff final will be an all Limerick affair with Garryowen hosting UL Bohemian in next Saturday’s decider at Dooradoyle. Garryowen booked their place in the final with an impressive 41-19 home win over Old Wesley. Neil Cronin scored a try, two penalties and five conversions of Garryowen’s tally. It was 10-9 to the home side at half time with Cronin scoring a try conversion and a penalty. Second half tries from Bailey Faloon, Sean O’Connor, Hugh O’Byrne Cunningham and Steve McMahon sent Garryowen into next week’s decider.
U.L. Bohemian defeated a fancied Naas side 19-17 at the Kildare venue. Noel Kinnane scored UL Bohes try and Rick McKenna added a conversion and four penalties.
The Division 2A playoff final will also be an all Munster final when Dolphin host Nenagh Ormond.
Dolphin defeated Malone 20-8 at Irish Independent Park with tries from Will Hanly and Ryan Murphy and two conversions and two penalties by Barry Keeshan.
Nenagh Ormond came from 9-0 down to defeat Highfield 13-9 at Woodleigh Park. A try, conversion and two penalties from Clayton Stewart sent the Tipperary side through to the decider. Paddy O’Toole kicked three penalties for Highfield.
Old Crescent caused a big surprise at Irish Independent Park as they blitzed Sunday’s Well 46-21 to book an away playoff against City of Armagh in the Division 2B playoff. Val McDermott (2), Sean Monaghan, Cathal Monaghan, Paul McNamara and Liam McMahon scored tries for Crescent. Shane O’Brien kicked four conversions and two penalties and Barry Neville added a conversion. Sunday’s Well replied with tries from Michael Boland and Shane Desmond and Shane O’Riordan kicked a conversion and three penalties.
Clonmel failed to make the relegation play off in Division 2C after they lost their All Ireland Provincial League tie 25-13 away to Omagh. The Tipperary side were awarded a penalty try and Conor Cooney kicked a conversion and two penalties.
As a result of Clonmel remaining in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League, both Clonakilty and Tralee are now relegated.
