Munster Junior Clubs Final Day at Irish Independent Park saw Kinsale and Killorglin claim silverware as Kilfeacle are on the verge of being crowned Munster Junior League Champions for the second time.
Three tries in the final five minutes saw Kinsale snatch the Munster Junior Clubs Shield from Kanturk with a 32-17 win at Musgrave Park as Kanturk held a slender 17-15 lead. Dan Cronin, Shane O’Connell, Rob Armstrong, Sean Kingston and Josh Barrett scored tries for Kinsale. O’Connell kicked a conversion and a penalty and Kingston also added a conversion. Eoin O’Sullivan and Daithi Fitzpatrick replied with tries for Kanturk and Conor Cremin converted both and also added a penalty.
Killorglin defeated holders Killarney 24-14 to lift the Martin O’Sullivan Cup for the first time. Three penalties from luke O’Shea gave Killorglin a 9-0 interval lead. Timmy Lynch and Andrew O’Reilly added tries after the break and O’Shea kicked a conversion and a penalty. Shane McSweeney and David Howard scored tries for Killarney and Brendan Fuller converted both.
Kilfeacle defeated Clonakilty 26-0 at the Tipperary venue with a bonus point victory and technically all they have to do is fulfil their final fixture next week away to Richmond to be crowned champions.
Darren Ryan, Kevin Kinnane, Brian McLoughlin and Darren Lowry scored tries for Kilfeacle and Willie Staunton kicked three conversions.
Newcastle West are now the only side mathematically that can overtake Kilfeacle if they get maximum points from their last two games against Waterpark and St. Senan’s. Their failure to get a bonus point from their 14-3 away win at Abbeyfeale almost ended their title hopes. A Sean Ivess try converted by Sean Herlihy had Newcastle West 7-3 ahead at half time. Derry O’Connor kicked a penalty for Abbeyfeale. The only score of the second half was a try by James Kelly which Herlihy converted.
Thomond ensured a top four finish with a 24-10 home win over Galbally. Ryan Phillips scored two tries for the winners and Evan Sheehan and Evan O’Connor got one each. Adam Guerin kicked two conversions. Brendan Childs and Jack O’Donovan replied with tries for Galbally.
Bandon and Skibbereen played out a thrilling 17-17 draw at Old Chapel a result that keeps Skibbereen’s outside hopes of avoiding relegation alive. Enda Phelan, Ben Donegan and Padraig Galvin scored tries for Bandon and Marcos Langleyze kicked a conversion. Jonathan Benn and Kieran Shannon replied with tries for Skibb’ and Matthew Burke converted both and also added a penalty.
A try from James Burke converted by Kealon Daly was not enough for Crosshaven who lost 13-7 at home to Richmond. Gearoid Phelan scored a try for Richmond; Brian Mullins kicked a conversion and a penalty and Sean Considine also added a penalty.
Old Christians have moved to the top of Division Two as a result of their 29-3 win over Fethard at Rathcooney. Jim Aherne was the hero for Old Christians scoring four tries, Ryan O’Connell also scored a try and Brian Sisk kicked two conversions.
Ballincollig continued their recent good run with a 17-8 victory over Charleville at Tanner Park last Saturday evening under lights. Liam Fahy and Kieran O’Driscoll scored tries for Ballincollig and Charlie Boland converted both and also added a penalty. Darragh Browne replied with a try for the visitors and Jessie Smith kicked a penalty.
Mitchelstown defeated Scariff 12-7 in their Division Three tie as they bid for a home game in the play-offs. Trailing 7-5 at half time tries from Patrick Norris and Mike McCarthy and a conversion by Pa Molloy earned them the points.
Youghal defeated Dunmanway 15-5 in their final game with tries from Sean Hennessy, Scott O’Sullivan and Cian Kenneally.
A late try from Mark McLoughlin converted by Joe O’Leary earned U.C.C. a 10-3 win over Cork Constitution in the final of the Under 20 Donal Walsh trophy played at Tralee.
Old Crescent won the Under 20 Donal Walsh Plate with a 19-14 win over Bruff. Timmy Duggan and James Neville scored tries for Old Crescent and Paul Collins kicked three penalties. Jack Barrett and Adam O’Dwyer replied with tries for Bruff and Jamie Ahern converted both.
U.L. Bohemian continued their unbeaten run in the All Ireland Women’s League with a 46-17 away win at Cooke. Chloe Pearse scored two tries for the winners, Stephanie Noonan, Niamh Kavanagh, Niamh O’Neill, Edel Murphy, Claire Bennett and Lily Brady got on each. Murphy kicked three conversions.
