With just four games remaining in Section A of the Munster Junior League to be played, five teams are still not sure what Division they will be playing in next season as Galbally-Mitchelstown clinched the Section B trophy.
In the Women’s AIL Cup, Ballincollig fell to a 34-0 defeat away to Wicklow.
In the Munster Junior League, Champions Richmond finished their campaign with a 38-24 defeat at home to Clonakilty. The West Cork side needed the win to ensure their place in Division 1 next season. Sean Hudson, Sean Madden, Rory Fletcher and Cathal O’Regan scored tries for Clonakilty. Eoin Downey kicked four penalties and three conversions for the winners. Darragh Joyce replied with two tries for Richmond and Conor McMahon and Keelan Stephenson got a try each. Jack O’Hanlon and Tadgh Bennett each kicked a conversion.
After the match, the Munster Junior Branch Vice President Brendan Foley presented the trophy to Richmond’s captain Darragh Joyce.
Thurles defeated Kilfeacle 40-10 to boost their chances of playing in the top flight. Eoghan O’Dwyer (2), Conor O’Hagan, Cathal Hayes, and Donnacha Ryan were Thurles’ try scorers . O’Hagan kicked three penalties and three conversions. Cillian Noonan and Donnacha O’Grady replied with tries for Kilfeacle.
Clanwilliam’s 23-13 home win over Muskerry assured the Tipperary side safety, while the Cork side must wait for the completion of the AIL before they will know their fate. Darragh Crowe and Jack Quinlan scored tries for Clanwilliam and Niall Leahy kicked three penalties and two conversions. Liam O’Donovan replied with a try for Muskerry, and Ciaran O’Connor converted and added two penalties.
Bandon defeated Crosshaven 27-17 to move into second place. Ben Ridgeway, Ben Donegan, and Tom Ferguson scored tries for Bandon with Ridgeway converting all three tries and kicking two penalties. Ronan O’Donoghue and Josh McCarthy were Crosshaven’s try scorers, and Jack O’Connell converted both tries and also added a penalty.
Mallow defeated Old Christians 35-15 at Rathcooney. Ken Mills scored two tries for Mallow and Sean Glynn and Yasushi Katsuta got one each, they were also awarded a penalty try. Sam Glynn kicked three conversions and Katsuta one. Tim Hegarty, Mark Gleeson, and Cian Smith replied with tries for the home side.
Abbeyfeale and Thomond played out a 14-14 draw. Daniel Leahy and Michael Kilbridge scored tries for Abbeyfeale and Sean Kilbridge converted both. Luke Costelloe and Jack Cosgrave were Thomond’s try scorers and Jason King converted both.
Galbally-Mitchelstown defeated Youghal at the east Cork venue 26-0 to clinch Section B of the Junior League. Youghal must now avoid defeat away to Fermoy next week if they are to qualify for the Division 1 playoffs. Brendan Childs, Sean Coughlan, Pat O’Donoghue, and Davy Sheehan scored tries for Galbally-Mitchelstown. John Kearns kicked one conversion, and Pat Shannahan two
Shannon defeated UCC 21-14 to win the Donal Walsh U20 trophy at Tralee. James O’Brien and Cillian Coakley scored tries for Shannon and Rory O’Gorman kicked a conversion and three penalties.
UL Bohemian won the Donal Walsh U20 Plate Final with a 20-19 victory over Young Munster.
