Weekend Rugby Roundup & Results

No changes at the top of the First and Second Division of the Munster Junior League as Ballincollig take over the lead in Division Three.

Leaders St. Mary’s still remain in top spot in Division One after their 22-11 home win over Kilfeacle. A try by Brian Downey and a conversion and penalty by Ben Sargent had the home side 10-6 ahead at the interval. James Hogan replied with two penalties for Kilfeacle.
Tries from Barry Kelly and Paul Loughlin, the latter converted by Sargent extended the home side’s lead to 22-6. Cormac O’Donoghue scored a late try for the visitors.

Kanturk remain level with St. Mary’s after their 27-22 away win over Tralee. Tries from John Duggan, Sean McCabe and Micheal O’Neill all converted by Stephen McAuliffe had the visitors 21-7 ahead at half time. Ronan O’Sullivan scored Tralee’s try which Garrett Walsh converted. McAuliffe added two penalties after the break and the home sides replied with tries from Walsh and Liam Quaid with Walsh adding a conversion and a penalty.

Newcastle West are now just a point behind the leaders after their 39-17 bonus point win at home to Muskerry. The home side led 27-3 at the break. Stephen Kelly scored two tries for the winners and Ryan Nixon Tommy Kelleher and Ronan Mulcahy got one each. Sean Herlihy kicked four conversions and two penalties. Conor Buckley and Martin Muldoon replied with tries for Muskerry and Darragh Masterson converted both and also added a penalty.

Clonmel kept their challenge alive with a 14-12 away win over Cobh Pirates.
Two penalties from Conor Cooney gave Clonmel a 6-0 interval lead. Cooney added a third penalty and a try by Luke Hogan had the Tipperary side 14-0 before Cobh rallied with tries from Greg Higgins and Alan Langford and a Higgins conversion.

Old Christians edged out Skibbereen 14-9 at Rathcooney. Stuart Lee kicked three penalties for the winners and Paddy Naughton got a try. Ger Hurley replied with two penalties for Skibbereen and Steve Hansel got one.

Clonakilty recorded their third draw of the campaign when they were held by Mallow 13-13. Dave Walsh scored a try for the home side and Andy Cashman kicked a conversion and two penalties. Clonakilty replied with a try from Stephen Cotter and a conversion and two penalties by Ciaran Calnan.

Bottom side Galbally recorded their first win of the campaign with a 21-15 away win over Waterpark. Dave Fitzgerald and Paddy Kiersey were try scorers for Waterpark and Geoff Deegan kicked a conversion and a penalty.

The meeting of the top two sides in the Second Division finished all square after Kinsale and St. Senan’s played out a 9-9 draw. Sean Kingston kicked three penalties for Kinsale and Declan Rowe replied with three for the Clare side.

Bandon closed the gap on the leaders with a 38-3 home win over Killarney. Tom Ferguson scored two tries for the home side and Michael Beechor and Jack Murphy got one each. Richard Walsh kicked two conversions and four penalties and Murphy also added a conversion. Paudie Sheahan replied with a penalty for the visitors.

Clanwilliam continued their challenge with a 22-17 away win over Crosshaven. Ray Merrigan, Chris Doyle and Richard Childs scored tries for the Tipperary side and Brian Kissane converted two and added a penalty. Danny O’Donovan and Eamonn Ring replied with tries for Crosshaven and Ian Smith converted both and added a penalty.

Thurles collected maximum points with a 30-3 away win over Youghal. Eoghan O’Dwyer scored two tries, two conversions and two penalties for the Tipperary side and Tommy Keane and Shane Fogarty got one each. Keith McCarthy replied with a penalty for the home side.

Presentation and Newport played out a 22-22 draw. Presentation had a try from Shane O’Brien and Mark Phair converted and added five penalties. Philip O’Brien, Sean Berkery and Brian Collins were try scorers for Newport and O’Brien kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Waterford City had a 31-26 home win over Ennis and the Killorglin Castleisland game was postponed.

Ballincollig are the new leaders in Division Three after their 6-5 away win over Carrigaline. Kevin Doyle kicked two penalties for Ballincollig and Shane O’Halloran replied with a try for the home side.

Douglas maintained their challenge with a 20-0 away win over Kilrush. Alan O’Flynn and Liam Hynes were their try scorers and Eoin Philpott converted both and also added two penalties.

An injury time penalty from Conor Foley gave Dungarvan a 15-14 away win over Fermoy. A try from Ian Pratt and two penalties by Cathal O’Keeffe gave Fermoy an 11-0 half time lead. Dungarvan hit back with tries from Patrick Crowther and Darragh Ryan and a conversion by Foley. Dylan Lacy added a penalty for the home side late in the game to put Fermoy 14-12 in the lead but Foley’s penalty saw the points go to Dungarvan.

Charleville defeated Scariff 31-17. Dan Dooney and Robbie Madden scored tries for Scariff and Dooney kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Carrick-on-Suir recorded a 51-0 home win over Dunmanway-Bantry Bay.

Cork Constitution defeated Midleton 26-13 in the South Munster Seconds League. Alan Ross, Eoin O’Donnell and Philip O’Leary were Con’s try scorers and Pat Parfrey kicked three penalties and a conversion.

Highfield defeated Cashel 20-8 with two tries from George French and one by Colin Lougheed. Darragh O’Keeffe added a conversion and a penalty.

In the Junior Two League South Mitchelstown inflicted the first defeat of the season on leaders Muskerry 10-5. Colm Moloney scored a try for the winners and Richard McGrath kicked a conversion and a penalty. Shane O’Brien was Muskerry’s try scorer.

Cobh Pirates defeated Dolphin 22-13. Danny Keating and Cian Gormley scored tries for Cobh who were also awarded a penalty try. Ian Jones kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Bandon had a surprising 47-3 home win over Kinsale. Peter Galvin, Colm Verling, Giles Murphy, Tim O’Mahony, Pat O’Donnell, Pat Prendergast and Rob Wilmot scored tries for Bandon and Olan Crowley kicked six conversions.

A try and two penalties from Simon Barry helped Cork Constitution to an 11-6 home win over Highfield.
