Weekend Women’s Action
13th October 2014 By Munster Rugby
We round-up all the Division 1 and Division 2 South action from the weekend.
Division 1
Galwegians 24 UL Bohemians 24, Crowley Park
With two tires inside the first 22 minutes, Galwegians exerted their dominance until Bohs clawed back a try just before the half hour mark with outside centre Louise Galvin dotting down. Ireland's World Cup full-back Niamh Briggs duly converted.
However the Galwegians reply was swift, scoring another try before the interval.
From the restart, Bohs began to turn around their fortunes with a performance of huge intensity and Ashling Hutchings touched down after collecting a brilliant box kick from Briggs.
Bohs continued to apply the pressure on a very heavy pitch. Replacement second row Valerie Mitchell went in for a try after making a solo break, bringing the Limerick girls back to within two points of Galwegians with less than 15 minutes left on the clock.
However Galwegians struck again with another five points courtesy of their captain Ruth O'Reilly.
Yet the visitors showed impressive composure and determination to level the match in the 76th minute courtesy of a try from inside centre Mairead Kelly and a vital conversion from Briggs.
Highfield 13 Railway Union 15, Woodleigh Park
Following on from last weekend’s away win over Galwegians, Highfield suffered a 13-15 home defeat to Railway Union at Woodleigh Park. Managing to secure a bonus losing point, the Cork ladies remain in fourth in the table.
Tralee 0 Blackrock 39, O'Dowd Park
Still to register a score in the league to date, the Tralee women suffered a 0-39 defeat to Blackrock. The result sees them drop to seventh on the table with only score difference over St Marys keeping them from propping up the Division 1 table.
Division 2 South
With Fermoy v Shannon and St Senans v Ballincollig both postponed, Nenagh Ormond v New Ross was the only game to be played in Division 2 South as the Tipperary women won out on a scoreline of 29-25. The result sees them move up to third on the table behind Fermoy and Ballincollig – both of whom have a game in hand.
