Defending Champions Newcastle West close the gap on leaders Bandon in Section A of the Munster Junior League, as Clonakilty advance to the quarter-finals of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup

Due to the big backlog of games, two games went ahead over the New Year’s weekend.

Newcastle West traveled to Thurles and emerged winners 31-22 in their Junior League game. The winners were awarded two penalty tries, Sean murphy and Sean Herlihy also added tries for Newcastle West to secure a bonus point. Shane Airey converted both tries and also added a penalty. Owen Byrne, Luke Fogarty, and Paddy McGrath replied with tries for Thurles. Conor O’hagan kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Clonakilty defeated Thomond 11-6 to book a home quarter-final against Kilfeacle in the Junior Clubs Challenge Cup. Two penalties from Eoin Downey gave Clonakilty a 6-3 halftime lead. Rory Fletcher added a try for the WestCork side after the interval. Eoghan Sherlock kicked two penalties for the visitors.
