West Munster Emerging Schools Blitz
14th December 2016 By Munster Rugby
Munster Rugby are currently running blitz days throughout the province for secondary school pupils attending non-traditional rugby playing schools with one of the latest events taking place in West Munster.
Tralee RFC hosted the blitz with Castleisland Community College; St. Patrick’s Secondary School, Castleisland; Mercy Mounthawk, Tralee; and Coláiste Íde agus Iosef, Abbeyfeale all taking part.
The Emerging Schools blitzes are now in their second year and the standard of rugby is improving all the time among the participating schools.
The aim of the Emerging Schools initiative, which is being run throughout the province, is to give as many young people as possible the opportunity to play rugby with the venture proving a great success so far.
Munster's Community Rugby Officers are coaching rugby to students, many of whom have never played the sport, in schools from Kerry, West Cork, East Cork, Cork City, North Cork, Tipperary, Limerick, Waterford and Clare.
The top two schools from each region will go into a finals day in Cork and Limerick after Christmas.
