New York Event
The New York City Friends of Munster Fundraising Dinner takes place annually at the New York Athletic Club with the 2025 event being held on Wednesday, September 10th.
Every year the dinner fundraises for the community game within the province of Munster and the development the game of rugby. The event is focused on getting as many kids as possible across Munster out playing rugby and developing grassroots rugby.
Since the dinner began in 2018 it has raised funds and has contributed to the following projects:
· Club Community Rugby Officers (CCRO’S): these help clubs, schools, and communities to develop the game of rugby.
· Summer Camps and School tournaments within Munster that allow children to learn and develop the skills of rugby in a fun and safe environment.
· The donation of equipment such as jerseys, kit, and equipment for clubs.
The support from the New York Friends of Munster Dinner has contributed to a huge increase in children across the province having the opportunity to play rugby. It has helped get some isolated clubs off the ground with grants for kits, training equipment, etc. It has helped get coaches into regions and schools that previously never had a coaching program.
The following is an example of the impact of how the rugby development department has benefited and grown because of the New York Friends of Munster Dinner.
The New York Friends of Munster committee is also eager to support and give back to communities throughout New York City. In July 2024, we worked with Play Rugby USA, a youth rugby team located in New York City to provide two kids and their coach with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Ireland and experience Irish culture in general, and to also be completely immersed in a Munster Rugby summer camp.
Christian Urquia and Mario Salomon travelled to Ireland for eight days with coach Yohendy Martinez to join the Munster Rugby summer camp at Rockwell, County Tipperary. Ahead of the 2025 school of excellence camp we will work with Play Rugby USA again and two girls and their coach will travel and attend the school of excellence camp in Bandon Grammar for a week.
