Three second half tries helped Munster to a 34-7 win over Heriots at Musgrave Park to book themselves a place in the British & Irish Cup semi Final.
Munster led 15-7 at half time after they’d gone into a comfortable 15 point lead with tries from Mike Sherry and Dave Kilcoyne.
And then were forced to play second fiddle to a visiting side who made nonsense of their lowly league table position. Their winger Max Nimmo scored a good try in the right hand corner at the Well end in the 31st minute that his captain Graham Wilson converted superbly and Wilson was narrowly wide with a subsequent penalty.
Danny Barnes finished off a good Munster move in the 50th minute, Declan Cusack converting but Heriots refused to lie down and the introduction of replacement Marc Teague gave an already lively backline an added edge.
On two occasions the visitors spurned possible three pointers in favour of five metre line-outs and on each occasion they came up short thanks mainly to the defensive efforts of Nick Williams and skipper Peter O’Mahony.
In the 70th minute Williams blocked down Teague’s attempted clearance and gathered to score and in the closing stages replacement Sean Scanlon rounded off a good Munster backline move and showed good pace to score his side’s fifth try that replacement Jeremy Manning converted.
