Munster Win In Donnybrook

Tries from Ronan O’Mahony in the first half and Sean Henry at the start of the second helped Munster to an 18-12 win in the A Interprovincial in Donnybrook.

They had however to withstand a late Leinster flourish before claiming the points.

Munster led 11-9 at half time thanks to JJ Hanrahan's second successful effort late in injury time, a penalty award that saw Jack McGrath yellow carded and they took advantage of the man down at the start of the second half when Sean Henry crashed over, Hanrahan's conversion leaving them 18-9 in front with just two minutes gone.

It remained like that though Munster enjoyed territorial advantage until the 76th minute when replacement Cathal Marsh kicked a penalty to leave six points separating the sides.

Munster had the first scoring opportunity of the afternoon, after five minutes when awarded a penalty that JJ Hanrahan pulled left and wide. Awarded a second four minutes later from half way, Hanrahan found touch just inside the Leinster 22 at the end of the ensuing pressure, after Johne Murphy had made good ground on the right at the Bective end, Munster went left and Ronan O'Mahony scored the opening try.

Noel Reid reduced the deficit with an 18th minute penalty and six minutes later edged Leinster in front with a penalty from just outside the 22.

Then, after a scintillating break by the Leinster out-half took play deep into Munster's half Reid was narrowly wide from distance with his penalty attempt but made no mistake shortly after with a tap over from in front of the Wesley posts.

Hanrahan kicked Munster into the lead and then converted Henry's try for what looked an unassailable lead but they were made work right to the end for their win.
