A much stronger Dragons XV eased past Munster A in round two of the Celtic Cup at Rodney Parade on Friday night
With 12 senior players in the Dragons XV, it was always going to be a huge battle for Peter Malone’s youthful Munster A side.
A far more cohesive outfit, the hosts comfortably secured the bonus point win running in six tries, with the reds defensive line bombarded in quick succession as the Welsh side scored four tries over a 12-minute period in the opening quarter.
Munster A had taken an early lead, when Ben Healy slotted a penalty after two minutes, before the experienced Dragons punished the visitors in clinical fashion.
Former Munster Academy player James McCarthy, Connor Edwards, Josh Reynolds and Luke Yendle all crossed the whitewash, and with James Botica adding two conversions the home side opened up a 24-3 lead by the break.
The second half continued in the same vein as Dragons extended their lead further with tries from Rio Dyer and Dan Bobos.
Munster A continued to rally into the final quarter and produced a consolation try through Rob Hedderman, and with Healy converting it finished 36-10.
