Munster fell to a 33-19 loss against Gloucester at Virgin Media Park on Friday night with 30 players getting valuable game-time ahead of the new season.

The game will be available to watch back in full for Access Munster subscribers from Saturday here.

The Munster tries came from Liam Coombes, Academy back-row forward Ruadhán Quinn and Academy scrum-half Jack Oliver with Billy Burns adding two conversions.

Five Gloucester tries from Charlie Atkinson, Ollie Thorley, Max Llewellyn, Afo Fasogbon and George Barton gave them a 33-12 half-time lead after an excellent attacking display from the visitors.

Burns put Liam Coombes through the gap for an early Munster try but Gloucester hit back immediately off the restart and were the better side for the remainder of the half.

The unfortunate Coombes limped off early on with Patrick Campbell replacing him on the wing but slick Gloucester attack gave the visitors a 19-point lead at the break.

Quinn did hit back with a try from close-range after a Munster maul on 29 minutes but that was as good as it got for the hosts in the first half despite a bright start.

Munster were the better side after the break and scored the only try of the second half through Academy scrum-half Jack Oliver, on his first start.

Tom Farrell came on for replacement Patrick Campbell at half-time with Seán O’Brien moving to the wing as Farrell and Shane Daly partnered up in midfield.

Seán Edogbo replaced Jack O’Donoghue after 48 minutes to make his first appearance for the province.

Academy scrum-half Jack Oliver sniped over after 55 minutes to get Munster back in contention with Burns’ conversion make it 33-19.

Tom Farrell had a try chalked off after 73 minutes as Munster kept looking for a way back into the game but it was Gloucester who ran out deserving winners.

Garryowen centre Gordon Wood came on after 73 minutes for his first Munster appearance, following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps in lining out for Munster.
