Annakate began playing rugby in Iveragh Eagles RFC in Cahersiveen before moving to Abbeyfeale RFC as there was no girls underage team in South Kerry.

Now playing senior rugby Cournane has moved to Shannon RFC and most recently captained the side that went on to win last season’s Munster Open Cup.

Cournane represented Munster at U18 level in 2022 and won an interprovincial championship with the squad.

She is also not the only rugby player in her family with her both her brother and sister playing with their respective clubs while her dad coaches.
